On the Internet, there are a lot of different assumptions on this score, sometimes quite absurd. There are also many variations of diets. Most often in the role of a secret means to combat excess weight is another variation on the topic of a cucumber diet, one of the most popular express ways to achieve an ideal figure.

Cucumber diet – the secret method of losing weight Xenia Borodina?

On the network, you can often find the statement thatCucumber diet is exactly the secret weapon that helped to cope well-known TV host with excess weight. Even given an approximate daily menu, a diet designed for 1-2 weeks:

  • breakfast: Rye, or whole wheat bread – 1 piece, 2 fresh cucumbers. You can make salad from vegetables, adding greens and a teaspoon of olive oil, you can make a sandwich, or eat everything individually;

The program of losing weight Xenia Borodina

The very same leader in her book “We Lose Weight Together withKsenia Borodina “, from 2011, claims that her weight loss is not based on any miracle diets, but is the result of daily work on yourself, and the observance of fairly well-known and time-tested dieticians advice:

  1. The amount of calories received in the body should be less than their consumption.
  2. You can not tolerate a feeling of hunger, you need to eat often and in small portions – about 200 ml (rule 1 cup).
  3. It is necessary to increase physical activity, this will allow you to achieve greater calorie consumption and help to keep your body muscles toned.
  4. You need to lose weight, not hurrying: the physiological norm is a weight loss of 0.5 – 1.5 kg per week.
  5. Caloric content of a daily diet should be about 1200-1500 kilocalories for women, and 1500-2000 for men.
  6. You need to drink plenty of water, at least 2 liters per day, this will allow the body to quickly remove products of the decomposition of fatty deposits from the body.
  7. Eat healthy food, right(70% slow carbohydrates (cereals, vegetables), 20% – proteins (lean meat, eggs, dairy products, legumes), 10% – fats, with 2/3 of them – vegetable oils.

Here, perhaps, and all the secrets. It’s trite, some will say, maybe even so, but these seemingly simple recommendations helped not only to lose weight to many people, but also to preserve the result. In addition, this way to lose weight is not harmful to health, but on the contrary, helps to keep it for many years.

Before and after: Matt Manning, a 45-year-old engineer from Xenia, Ohio, lost an incredible 45lbs in four months after entering a weight-loss contest. He won the top prize of $50,000

‘Well, they say I look like a superhero now!’ he said of his kids, adding: ‘My daughter saw the before pictures and she’s like, “Man, you look miserable, I’d be miserable too if I looked like that.”‘

Mr Manning said he decided it was time to get back in shape after his father – who had always been fit and healthy – had to get a heart valve transplant.

‘It suddenly became very real that a heart valve replacement was likely in my future,’ he wrote on his blog. ‘And I would probably need one at an earlier age than my Dad, based on how poorly I was taking care of myself.’

An e-mail about the Bodybuilding.com challenge was all it took to spur him on.

‘I knew I needed to change, I knew why I needed to change, I knew what I needed to change,’ he said. ‘And as soon as I saw the Transformation Challenge email, I knew when I was going to change.’

To drop the weight, 5ft 9in Mr Manning – who started the challenge at 213lbs – portioned out his meals, stuck to a healthy diet and incorporated exercise into his daily routine.

Transformation: These days, not only is he unrecognizable from the outside, but he’s also lowered his cholesterol and his blood pressure, as well as dropping to just five percent body fat

He also practiced intermittent fasting, which saw him eating all his daily calories between 8am and 4pm, and fasting for the remaining 16 hours of each day.

‘My daughter saw the before pictures and said, “Man you look miserable, I’d be miserable too if I looked like that”‘

Today, not only is he unrecognizable from the outside, but he’s also lowered his cholesterol and his blood pressure significantly, as well as dropping from 26per cent body fat to just five per cent.

‘It has to come from within – you have to have that want, it has to be internally driven,’ he said of staying motivated. ‘But then you can do things to build support around you.’

Mr Manning cites his wife Candice as especially instrumental in helping him stay on track.

‘I’m at the gym and Bodybuilding.com is here,’ he says excitedly. ‘They gave me a bag of money! I mean, who does that?’

He then expresses his gratitude for her enduring support. ‘Thank you so much for everything you did,’ he says. ‘I just told them you got up this morning to do more progress photos!

‘Bye, Sweetie, I love you,’ he says, still grinning with disbelief.

Many men – when growing beard for the first time – notice that their facial hair is patchy, especially on the cheek area, just like Keanu’s on the image above.

How to fill in this patchy beard then? And also how to make sure that the trimming and beard style is right for thin or sparse or patchy facial hair that you have.

That is the question this article answers in three steps:

  1. Why is my facial hair patchy and will my beard fill in?
  2. How to fix patchy beard and make it fill in naturally over-time.
  3. Patchy beard styles for covering and minimizing the bald spots on beard.

Why is My Beard Patchy and Facial Hair Thin?

Like said, this is an extremely common problem, and especially on the area of the cheeks.

There are few scientific reasons as to why this happens.

One is that the cheek area has significantly weaker blood flow than the area of the upper lip and chin, this means that over time less nutrients and beard growing hormones (testosterone and DHT) make it to the cheek area, resulting in beard patches and thin facial hair on that area.

Another explanation is that your overall levels of androgens (testosterone and DHT) might be on the lower end and the supply simply isn’t enough to trigger facial hair growth in full beard area. Common characteristics of men with lower amount of male hormones are indeed a thin beard, growth only on chin and mustache area, and/or no facial hair at all.

Will my beard ever fill in then?

You may have heard people saying that it’s all in the genetics and there’s nothing that can be done to fix a patchy beard. However, there are several research-backed patchy beard solutions, and you’ll find them below…

How to Grow a Full Beard without Patches

So, how to fill in a patchy beard, how to finally fill in your beard? That’s a million-dollar question asked by countless of sparse bearded men around the globe.

The truth is that there are only a handful of methods to actually stimulate facial hair growth to eventually eliminate those bald patches in facial hair area.

Here’s a list of those proven “patchy beard solutions” with links to further reading;

  1. Minoxidil, a prescription free hair-loss medication proven to stimulate beard growth. This has practically no side-effects and is clinically proven to work on face.
  2. Microneedling (using a Derma Roller), poking tiny holes into beard area, signalling the body that there’s “damage”, causing it to send in collagen and keratin.
  3. Increasing testosterone and DHT levels naturally (the two facial hair growth hormones, T for hair-follicle stimulation and DHT for lineard growth).
  4. High quality multivitamin for proper micronutrient balance (NOT vitabeard or beardilizer though, they’re overpriced kitchen-sink multi’s with just the name “beard”).
  5. Castor oil and chili oil for increasing the levels of hair growing prostaglanding E2 (PEG2) on face and stimulating circulation on the area.

Those are the ONLY proven solutions to fix a patchy facial hair and stimulate new growth. It won’t happen over night and you can’t expect to suddenly go from Michael Cera to Don Draper, but over long-period of time combining the steps above (especially minoxidil and microneedling), will yield impressive beard gains even to men with no signs of facial hair.

Best Styles for Sparse and Patchy Beard

Until your beard fills in, you may want to know what are the best styles for patchy facial hair to make beard appear fuller and thicker.

Goatee is a classic one, and it’s often used by the men who can’t grow hair on their cheeks so well.

If you wan’t to maintain a more fuller style and have some hair on the cheeks too, try trimming the hair to be the same lenght all-around the facial hair area.

Lastly, use a brush to tame the hair downwards, and something like castor oil to make it appear thicker.

One option is also to just roll with it, let the beard grow at its own phase despite the bald spots, much like Keanu Reeves does. This style might look odd at first, but its also rugged and perfectly acceptable.

Bottom line is that there are many styles to choose from, and depending the sizes and placements of your beard patches, different styles will suit different people.

Conclusion

When looking to fix a patchy facial hair, one should strive for proven methods of stimulating beard growth, such as:

Minoxidil, microneedling, high-dose multivitamin, castor oil, and boosting androgens.

During the time that your beard fills in with the use of above, trimming and styling the beard to emphasis your strongest points is one option, or you could just follow the example of Keanu and face life with a rugged-beard…

…It’s an underestimated look anyway.
