4 MORE exercises to better your riding and get the perfect breeches booty

Earlier this year, I shared four exercises to improve your riding and booty. Hopefully, you have been working your butt this year and it’s time for you to add some more exercises to your routine.

Strong legs and glutes (gluteus maximus) will boost your riding performance in all three phases of Eventing. A majority of riding aids involve your leg and seat so strengthening these muscles out of the saddle will make a difference in your riding no matter what level you’re at. Use these four simple exercises to get yourself equestrian fit:

1) Squat jacks: Use this straightforward exercise to work your glutes, thighs and get a serious cardio workout.

  • Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart.
  • Push your hips back to get into a squatting position with your arms in front of you.
  • Jump up explosively moving your arms out to your sides and your legs out slightly.
  • Land, squat and jump again.
  • Repeat 10-20 times, or until you need to catch your breath.

2) Hip hinges: This exercise will strengthen your glutes, improve your flexibility and give you better form in other glute exercises such as squats, deadlifts, lunges, etc. because all of these exercises involve correctly hinging at your hips. The key to this exercises is minimal movement at the knee and lower back. You are only moving at the hips, keeping your spine neutral.

  • Stand with your feet hip-width apart.
